Again EPDG have taken the initiate and lead in developing what will truly be a most modern container terminal and again as will project manage the overall development and investment. The national economy will require the further development of new ports and as such EPDG have recognized this requirement and are planning to build a new container terminal in idku bay on egypt’s northern coast. The new terminal will be located some 58 KM to the east of from alex and about 152 KM west of Damietta port. The option is to build it on land ,owned by the governate of el beira. The current port will be designed to be built parallel to the beach and is designed primary as a container terminal, with general cargo operations to be added in later phases and is expected to take three years to complete and be operational ,so a delay is not an option. To support the forecast growth the world bank recently concluded that Egyptian ports would grow to 10m TEUs by 2014. And drewery forecast 12m by 2018 / 19 . Moffat&Nichols also forecast similar growth for egyptian ports.
